The role
As a Senior Supportability Engineer, you will be part of a national team within the Marine Sector of Babcock, providing naval architecture, marine system engineering, electrical engineering, design modelling, supportability, and project support services to the marine and defence markets.
* Manage engineering aspects of the support solutions for equipment and systems contracted to Marine systems in the Support Value Stream, aiming to improve services for the Royal Navy, Babcock, and the MoD.
* Investigate and resolve technical queries, raise and answer S forms via the Maritime Collaborative Working Environment using SSDD and SDD against contract scope.
* Develop and implement design and support improvements, including TCO actions, to optimize cost, lead-time, and availability.
* Address obsolescence issues identified by the Obsolescence Manager, applying suitable resolutions for maximum benefit.
* Monitor Unit Maintenance Management System (UMMS) and suggest reliability improvements.
* Maintain technical document libraries, review and update Books of Reference (BRs) and Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPCs).
* Codify non-patternised items for supply to the Royal Navy.
* Visit OEMs and liaise on board with ship staff to stay current on issues.
* Define and update repair and new-buy Statements of Requirements (SoRs).
* Support Project Managers with Task Approval Forms (TAFs) as needed.
This role is full-time, 35 hours per week, with hybrid working arrangements.
Essential experience
* Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
* Familiarity with design techniques.
* Understanding of contract delivery.
* Knowledge of procurement processes.
* Understanding of asset management.
* Ability to produce concise reports and business cases.
* Knowledge of configuration management.
Qualifications
A relevant engineering qualification such as a degree or equivalent experience is required. IEng status or progress towards professional registration is preferred.
Security Clearance
The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) clearance.
