Role Purpose

As Senior Sustainability Advisor, you will lead the implementation, monitoring and reporting of sustainability, carbon management and social value activities across a range of construction and engineering projects.

Working closely with project teams and supply chain partners, you will ensure full compliance with client sustainability requirements while helping to embed best‑practice sustainability measures into design development, construction operations and overall project delivery.

This is a hands‑on, site‑focused role that requires strong technical capability in lifecycle carbon assessment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate client and regulatory requirements into clear, practical actions that add real value to the project.

Key Tasks / Responsibilities / Accountabilities

* Ensure all sustainability, environmental and carbon‑related requirements are understood and implemented by project teams and supply chain partners.
* Integrate sustainability requirements into project planning, design stages, procurement processes and site‑based activities.
* Act as the designated Sustainability Lead for assigned projects, ensuring client specifications and contractual obligations are met.
* Support project teams in delivering circular economy, biodiversity, waste, material efficiency and other sustainability‑driven outcomes.
* Lead the delivery of carbon baselines at required project stages and maintain robust Carbon Management Plans aligned with recognised frameworks (e.g., PAS 2080).
* Manage carbon reporting using approved carbon tools and client reporting systems.
* Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual carbon and sustainability progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
* Maintain monthly sustainability and carbon dashboards, capturing key performance metrics and project opportunities.
* Coordinate the submission of sustainability, environmental and social value data to client platforms in line with required deadlines.
* Develop and deliver project-specific social value plans that align with client expectations and Kirby objectives.
* Support project teams and supply chain partners in delivering measurable social value outcomes including local employment, apprenticeships, SME engagement and community initiatives.
* Track and evidence social value delivery using agreed reporting systems.
* Work closely with site teams to ensure sustainability and carbon activities are implemented safely and effectively.
* Provide clear communication, guidance and support to project managers, engineers, site leads and subcontractors to maintain compliance and drive improved performance.
* Support continuous improvement by identifying and promoting innovative sustainability and carbon reduction opportunities.

Essential

* Degree (NFQ Level 7 or higher) in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline.
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in sustainability, environmental management or carbon management within construction, engineering or infrastructure sectors.
* Demonstrated experience developing and delivering Carbon Management Plans and carbon‑reduction initiatives.
* Practical experience using lifecycle carbon assessment tools and methodologies (e.g., OneClick LCA, PAS 2080).
* Ability to convert client sustainability requirements into practical, deliverable actions on site.
* Strong data management and reporting capability.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
* Strong IT skills, particularly MS Excel and PowerPoint.
* Organised, proactive and capable of managing multiple project priorities.
* Willingness to travel across Ireland and the UK as required.
* Commitment to continuous professional development.

Desirable
