Speech and Language Therapy Assistant - School Liaison

The post holder will undertake clinical casework within the children's speech and language therapy team, working with a defined caseload, accountable to designated qualified speech and language therapists and with some autonomy in allocation of work. The assistant will have clerical and administrative duties as well as responsibility for room and equipment preparation.
They will be responsible for facilitating and coordinating SLT interventions into settings/schools, acting as liaison with setting/school and SENCOs to book in graduated approach interventions (e.g. communication clinics, strategy support).

Person Specification
Qualifications and professional training
* NVQ 3 or similar or equivalent experience
* GCSE or equivalent in English
* Evidence of formal short courses on special needs
Experience and knowledge
* Experience of working in any capacity directly with children and young people clients of any age who have special needs
* Awareness of the difficulties faced by children and young people of all ages with communication difficulties
* Admin & clerical experience
* Any additional work experience with members of the public
* Awareness of child protection issues
* Have assisted in training sessions
Skills and abilities
* Awareness of boundaries within a given role
* Can manage workload unsupervised
* Able to travel independently throughout the Wirral
* Can demonstrate ability to devise activities for clients
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
* Problem-solving abilities
* Aptitude for time management to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities
* Ability to produce own equipment using photocopier, computer graphics etc.
* Ability to use video/digital camera
* Can convey ideas and information in a confident and easily understood manner
* Adaptable to a varied and frequently changing work environment
* May be required to work in difficult, distracting environments and with very young clients and will require ability to give intense concentration
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with school staff / SENCO
