Job Summary
The Ophthalmology service is looking to recruit a highly motivated, reliable, and focused administrative support worker to join our welcoming team. We are a creative and innovative team working in a large multi-disciplined service, therefore require someone who is flexible to change and adaptable to the pressures of changing priorities and urgent tasks. A proactive approach, good judgement, initiative and critical thinking skills are crucial to managing this diverse and demanding role.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
Ensuring patient results are reported, communicating the results to GPs/patients efficiently. Undertaking any actions required based on clinical outcomes i.e. request an outpatient appointment, ensure patients are put on the waiting list, update the open clocks etc. Ensuring 10-day turnaround targets are met when communicating outpatient, diagnostic, elective and general letters to General Practitioners and patients. Liaising with care professionals from all services in UHB and wider NHS trusts. Having phone conversations with patients, demonstrating an empathic and supportive approach to all queries and requests as well as communicating clear guidance of what the patient should expect regarding next steps. Prioritising tasks and duties to provide an efficient and effective service at all times. Liaising with ophthalmology secretarial team and wider administrative team to support team initiatives and service delivery.

Person Specification
Qualifications – Essential
* Good General Education (e.g. GCSE English and Maths A-C) GCSE Level 9-4
* Business Administration NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in a clerical environment
Qualifications – Desirable
* AMSPAR Certificate/equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge of medical terminology
Experience – Essential
* Experience of dealing with the Public/Customer service experience
* Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (eg. Word, Excel and Outlook)
* Experience of using IT systems

* Experience of working in a busy environment
* Experience of working in Healthcare
