Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Healthcare, Education & Commercial Projects
Location: North West
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000
Package: Car allowance, mileage, 23 days holiday + bank holidays (increasing with service), early finish Fridays, plus full benefits package
Our client is a privately owned design & build contractor delivering complex projects across the healthcare, education, and commercial sectors. With a strong reputation for quality delivery and a collaborative culture, they continue to secure repeat business across live and regulated environments.
Due to sustained growth, they are looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of multiple schemes.
The Role
Reporting to a Quantity Surveyor, Project Lead, or Director, the Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial delivery of one or multiple projects.
Working closely with the Project Quantity Surveyor and wider commercial team, you will assist in ensuring all commercial processes are followed in line with company procedures, with a focus on maximising project profitability and recovering variation costs.
This is a client- and subcontractor-facing role requiring a professional, detail-oriented approach, offering exposure across all aspects of project commercial management.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in issuing subcontract tender packages in line with contract conditions and company procedures
Support the evaluation and analysis of subcontractor tender returns
Attend pre- and post-contract meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders
Produce and manage subcontract orders, ensuring accurate records and timely completion
Assist in administering subcontractor accounts, including valuations, re-measurements, and payment certification
Support the agreement of variations, including communication of outcomes and impact on final accounts
Carry out material take-offs as required
Assist with weekly and monthly valuations for subcontractors and suppliers
Support the preparation and submission of internal and external valuations in line with contract conditions
Assist with cost control and cash flow management across projects
Support negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors on pricing and final accounts
Monitor procurement schedules to ensure key milestones are achieved
Assist with the management and tracking of site materials
Maintain effective communication with clients and the wider project team
Ensure all commercial systems and records are kept up to date
Support the wider commercial team with ad hoc duties as requiredAbout You
Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee Quantity Surveyor role
Experience working within a main contractor or subcontractor environment
Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (or working towards)
Strong numerical and commercial awareness
Organised, detail-oriented, and proactive approach to work
Good communication skills and confident working within a team
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites as requiredWhat’s on Offer
