Mechanical Engineer, DERRY
Our client based in the Derry area is in a period of significant growth and due to their continued increased and busy workload they now have a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer. Responsible for managing maintenance activities and leading engineering projects to ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our facilities and equipment. This role involves a combination of maintenance work, project planning, and coordination with internal teams and external vendors. The successful candidate will play a critical role in optimizing maintenance processes, implementing improvement projects, and contributing to the overall success of our organization. Summary of main Duties:
1. Maintenance, Engineering & Facilities Management
1. Plan and execute preventive maintenance programs, using Asset Management software, to minimize equipment downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
2. Conduct routine inspections, diagnose equipment issues, and perform repairs or coordinate with maintenance technicians to resolve issues promptly.
3. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment history, and spare parts inventory.
4. Ensure all cargo handling equipment, plant, and machinery certifications are up to date.
5. Carry out engineering activities on site to include bespoke engineering solutions.
6. Produce maintenance reports and recommendations.
7. Act as Site Responsible person for any Contractors you manage including tendering, inductions, and any other relevant protocols.
8. Implement sustainable practices and energy-saving initiatives to optimize facility performance and reduce environmental impact.
9. As a primary key holder fulfill the role of first responder in the event of an incident or emergency outside of normal working hours.
2. Project Planning and Execution
1. Lead allocated engineering projects from conception to completion, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify project requirements, establish goals, and develop project plans and timelines.
3. Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers to procure materials and services necessary for project implementation in accordance with the organization's procurement policy.
3. Continuous Improvement
1. Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and performance improvement in maintenance, engineering, and facilities operations.
2. Implement best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technological solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
3. Analyze maintenance data, metrics, and KPIs to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
4. Facilities & Energy Management
1. Oversee the day-to-day facility operations, including balance of the plant, building maintenance, services, and environmental health and safety compliance.
2. Coordinate preventive maintenance activities, including inspections, servicing, and repairs, to minimize downtime and equipment failures.
5. Technical Support
1. Provide technical expertise and support to maintenance technicians, operators, and other staff members.
2. Conduct toolbox talks, training sessions, and workshops to ensure proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment and systems.
3. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in maintenance, facilities, and engineering.
6. Health, Safety, and Compliance
1. Ensure compliance with current health, safety, and environmental regulations/reporting and standards in all engineering, maintenance, and project activities.
2. Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and hazard analyses to mitigate potential risks and ensure a safe working environment.
3. Promote a culture of safety awareness and adherence to safety protocols among team members and contractors.
Essential Criteria:
* Relevant degree level qualification, i.e., BEng (Mechanical Engineering) at 2.2 or above, or equivalent.
* Minimum two years of experience in a similar environment.
* IT literate including proficiency in MS Office applications such as MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, and other IT systems such as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and online training platforms.
* Experience of successfully leading projects.
* Ability to prioritize workloads in a systematic and organized manner to ensure that jobs are completed within target times.
* Full current driving license or access to a form of transport to enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post in full.
* Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, codes of practice, and guidelines.
* Right to work in the UK without the requirement for a sponsorship license.
Desirable Criteria:
* Have obtained a project management qualification, such as Prince 2.
* Membership or professional accreditation in engineering or relevant discipline.

Permanent Role; Monday to Friday 8am-4pm; Salary Neg. Depending on Experience circa £30-40k; Ref - VAC-13075.
