Full‑time starting salary is normally in the range £47,389 to £56,535 with potential progression to £63,606. Grade 8. Full Time, Permanent. Closing date: 23rd April 2026. Interviews scheduled: 7th May 2026.
Academic Development Programme
New Assistant Professors will undertake a 5‑year development programme; upon completion they are expected to be promoted to Associate Professor. The programme comprises various development opportunities and time to reflect and develop.
Role Summary
You will contribute to a range of education‑related activities, demonstrate academic citizenship, and maintain supportive working relationships with staff and students. Teaching responsibilities include management, development, and delivery of teaching and assessment at all levels, enhancing the student experience and employability. The role also involves developing and advising others, leading curriculum development, and supporting student academic and pastoral care. Management and administration will involve knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement, widening participation, and outreach.
Main Duties
Education
* You will contribute across a range of teaching and learning activities:
o Contribute to leading curriculum development and renewal.
o Develop and manage best‑practice approaches to teaching and learning.
o Advise others on learning, teaching, and assessment.
o Deliver specific professional programmes where appropriate.
o Advance the practice of teaching in modules and within the school, and support student academic care.
o Inform your teaching with discipline‑based research.
o Update subject expertise and undertake professional development, including self‑reflection and peer review.
o Play a role in the recruitment and admission of students; co‑supervise doctoral students to completion.
* Using a variety of methods to teach and advise individuals and groups of undergraduates, postgraduates, or CPD students:
o Teach and examine courses at multiple levels.
o Plan and review teaching approaches, encouraging others.
o Design inclusive, engaging, academically challenging curriculum.
o Collaborate with colleagues on teaching, learning and assessment.
o Use digital resources effectively.
o Develop programme proposals and contribute to teaching programme design.
o Supervise, mark and examine where appropriate.
o Advise others on learning and teaching tasks and methods.
o Contribute to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement, and widening participation.
o Devise and supervise projects, dissertations, and practical work.
Management/Administration
Contribute to Departmental/School administration with responsibilities such as:
* Administration and management of teaching across the Department/School.
* Lead and manage a team to devise and implement new or revised processes.
* Advise on the personal development of colleagues and students.
* Participate in administrative activities such as appeals panels and working groups.
* Manage enterprise, business development, and public engagement activities.
* Contribute to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement, widening participation, and school outreach.
* Promote equality, diversity and inclusion through monitoring, evaluation, and challenging unacceptable behaviour.
Citizenship
Contribute to an inclusive working environment by:
* Supporting colleagues and student activities effectively and efficiently.
* Being involved in University life activities such as graduations and committees.
* Sharing resources and providing advice.
* Volunteering for one‑off duties and supporting projects.
* Engaging positively in School strategic initiatives.

Person Specification
* Current NMC registration as a registered nurse (adult).
* Higher degree relevant to the discipline, usually a PhD, or equivalent qualifications.
* Knowledge and understanding of contemporary nursing practice.
* Extensive teaching experience and scholarship in nursing specialism.
* Hold or are willing to complete a higher degree in higher education (PGC/ FHEA).
* Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning.
* Skills in managing, motivating, and mentoring others.
Teaching
* Ability to design, deliver, assess and revise teaching programmes.
* Experience in developing appropriate learning approaches and advising colleagues.
* Achievement in knowledge transfer, enterprise, and similar activities enhancing employability.
Management Administration
* Ability to contribute to School/Departmental management processes.
* Ability to assess and organise resources effectively.
* Understanding of broader management/administration processes.
* Experience championing equality, diversity and inclusion.
* Ability to monitor and evaluate equality and diversity legislation, policies, procedures.
* Ability to identify issues impacting protected groups and take appropriate action.
