Senior GCP VDC Network Engineer
Overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen with our client for a Senior GCP VDC Network Engineer to join their Public Cloud Platform team. This role plays a critical part in delivering secure, compliant, and scalable Google Cloud infrastructure that enables rapid and seamless cloud adoption across the organisation. The successful candidate will operate within a cross-functional feature team while also contributing as a senior member of the wider cloud engineering function. The position requires deep technical expertise in GCP networking, strong Infrastructure-as-Code capability, and a passion for automation, governance, and modern DevOps practices.

Role & Responsibilities
The Senior GCP VDC Network Engineer will:
Design, implement, and manage enterprise-grade GCP Virtual Data Centre (VDC) network architectures
Configure and maintain VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, routing, and VPC peering to ensure secure and scalable connectivity
Implement and manage hybrid connectivity solutions, including Cloud VPN and Interconnect, supporting on-premises and multi-cloud integration
Develop reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules using Terraform and Terraform Cloud
Automate network provisioning and configuration workflows using Python scripting
Integrate network deployments into CI/CD pipelines to enable automated provisioning and updates
Enforce GCP Organization Policies to ensure compliance, governance, and security standards are maintained
Implement policy-as-code guardrails using frameworks such as Sentinel or OPA
Monitor, log, and proactively optimise network performance and reliability
Collaborate closely with security teams to implement network security best practices, including private access and service perimeters
Support the migration of legacy network configurations into standardised, reusable cloud templates
Troubleshoot and resolve complex networking issues across GCP VDC environments
Skills & Experience
Strong hands-on experience with GCP Networking, including VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, routing, and peering
Proven expertise in Hybrid Connectivity (Cloud VPN, Dedicated/Partner Interconnect)
Advanced experience with Terraform / Terraform Cloud for Infrastructure as Code
Proficiency in Python scripting for automation
Experience integrating infrastructure deployments into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub, Harness)
Strong understanding of GCP Organization Policies and policy-as-code frameworks (Sentinel or OPA)
Experience designing secure, scalable enterprise network architectures
GCP Certification (preferably Professional Cloud Network Engineer)
