Development Assistant Position at Script Compass
About Us:
Script Compass is a pioneering screenplay development company, working with a range of clients across the film television and gaming industry to help them achieve production-ready scripts in the fewest number of drafts. Spearheaded by a BAFTA-nominated producer and a Curtis Brown-represented writer, Script Compass is an award-winning screenplay development service that champions a cost and time-effective development process. In the last two years, seven of the film projects developed by Script Compass have been fully funded (two of which won BFI Film Funding in 2022). The company is a fast-growing entity (winning the London Creative Start-Up Award in 2023) with its base in Bloomsbury, Central London. The position will be office-based, working between 10 am and 6 pm Monday through Friday.
The Role:
An exciting and rare opportunity to join the core team at Script Compass as the Development Assistant has arisen for a committed individual with a passion for film and television. The role will work across the development slate at Script Compass, managing the roster of clients as well as liaising, and working, with our Development Consultants and Executives. In addition to coordinating the development process, the candidate will work closely with the co-founders to ensure the smooth running of all internal company affairs. From writing reports on potential scripts to issuing and paying invoices on time, and office management, the candidate will take on a diverse and varied range of tasks to help with the management of Script Compass and other overall administrative duties of running a growing development company.
This role would suit someone who is an excellent and efficient multitasker, has great attention to detail, and is a friendly and sensitive communicator. The role will have a majority focus on coordination, diary management, and undertaking administrative duties, with scope for research into the in-house creative slate. The candidate should have an excellent understanding of written and spoken English. The role will also include using social media to market the business, and the ideal candidate should be someone who has a natural ability for, and interest in, digital marketing.
The Development Assistant will be the main port of call between the co-founders and the clients and should be on call to process information and keep on top of the latest movements in the development of projects. You will also be the primary point of contact for all clients. Taking the initiative is an essential part of the position to ensure that deadlines are met and clients are kept happy. The ideal candidate will be confident and personable in a team environment, but they should also be comfortable working independently and problem-solving as needed. Working in film can involve long and unpredictable working patterns with the pressure to meet tight deadlines. The role is office-based, and in general, normal office hours will apply. However, a flexible approach to working hours may be required.
Key Purposes:
* Help Script Compass to manage a roster of clients
* Ensure the smooth running and project management of a fast-growing development house
* Help co-founders to manage their time and projects
* Guide the team to have an overview of all projects
* Help ensure the efficiency of the office environment
* Support with social media – both strategy and posting
Responsibilities:
* Manage diaries and calendars for all SC team members and clients, with a particular focus on managing the time of the co-founders and booking meetings in international time zones.
* Liaising with development consultants and executives to ensure the smooth running of their development cycles. Ensure all development materials are sent over on time.
* Oversee the development process for each consultant to ensure they have everything they need and are on the right page.
* Processing, paying, and managing all company invoices – including incomings and outgoings.
* Reaching out to new clients via email and phone.
* Leading introduction meetings with potential clients.
* Doing research into new clients and their scripts to brief the team before introduction calls.
* Write script reports on potential scripts and assess their potential.
* Research into IP and potential themes/concepts from Script Compass’ own slate of in-house projects.
* Being ahead of the curve on up-and-coming market trends, writers, and producers.
* Social media marketing via Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook
* Research and administrative assistance to ensure best processes and practices are adopted in-house – always on the ball with new management and organisation solutions.
* Management of the office space – including ordering new equipment and making sure all office supplies are stocked.
Ideal Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
* Educated to degree level
* A passion for film, television, and games – with a strong interest and understanding of screenplay development, and the subsequent script’s journey from page to screen.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills – especially when it comes to grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
* Experience in managing a small team
* Experience in dealing with customers/clients in a B2C role
* Experience working with film and TV industry professionals
* Excellent knowledge of the writing process for film and TV
* Experience in managing finances
* Experience in office management
* An understanding of dealing with industry partners
* Excellent time management
* Google Drive, Excel, and MS Office experience
* Familiar with InDesign
* Strong understanding of scriptwriting software Final Draft and script structure
* Confident in time management and prioritising pressing tasks
Hours of Work:
* 10 am – 6 pm Monday to Friday – Full-time position
