We’re on the lookout for a Neighbourhood Highways Officer (NHO) to join our dedicated team in Barnstaple. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of Devon’s highways and transport infrastructure – all while embracing sustainable travel, including the use of electric vehicles as part of your day-to-day duties.
What Will You Be Doing?
As an NHO, you’ll be the vital link between the County Council and the communities we serve. Your work will be varied, meaningful, and community-focused. You’ll:
1. Support local County Councillors and engage with Town & Parish Councils and community groups.
2. Communicate planned works and gather local priorities.
3. Help design and develop local highway schemes based on community feedback and road condition data.
4. Assess speed limit requests and investigate public reports on highway issues.
5. Hel Manage applications for street cafés, banners, road closures, tourism signs, and more.
6. Identify funding opportunities for local transport improvements.
Who Will You Be Working With?
You’ll be based at our Barnstaple office, working closely with a small, friendly team covering the Combe Martin and Ilfracombe area. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues across the County Council, gaining support and sharing expertise.
