The Head of Business Technology is a senior-level role aligned to a specific Business Area. The role is customer-centric and provides technical leadership to support that business area, working closely with the business to ensure that technology meets their needs and goals.
This role specifically supports the Marketing team, collaborating with the Marketing Leadership Team, Group Technology, and external technology partners. It ensures investments in marketing technology support innovation, drive efficiency, and deliver measurable business value. The role acts as a strategic bridge between marketing objectives and technological enablement, aiding Connells Group in modernising its approach to customer engagement, lead generation, and brand positioning.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Being the Business Technical Lead within the Business Aligned team, working with product and delivery to achieve business goals.
2. Providing leadership, vision, and direction for the business area, supporting business leaders with their technology demands.
3. Collaborating with senior leaders and executives to ensure support from technology teams aligns with business strategy.
4. Working with the business, product, and architecture teams to design, manage, and execute product roadmaps.
5. Ensuring understanding and appropriate prioritisation of product technical debt within the backlog.
6. Participating in trade-off discussions and roadmap prioritisation.
7. Taking accountability for non-functional outcomes such as security, performance, availability, and system reliability within the business area.
8. Managing matrix teams of business analysts, software engineers, and testers (circa 175 people).
9. Building the capability of agile teams and supporting the transformation towards agile ways of working.
10. Working with the architecture team to ensure technical solutions align with business goals, are efficient, and cost-effective.
11. Collaborating with the Head of Engineering to ensure the business area has the right engineering capabilities to meet demands.
12. Driving continuous improvement in technology, processes, and ways of working.
13. Managing costs associated with supporting the business area, ensuring value is delivered.
14. Reviewing monthly service metrics to address service issues.
15. Supporting major incident processes affecting the business area.
16. Maintaining technical relationships with suppliers, participating in service reviews, and understanding their technical roadmaps and debts.
The ideal candidate will have:
* A degree in computer science or a related field, and/or experience in senior technology roles.
* Experience supporting marketing technologies such as websites, digital screens content management systems, digital and printed marketing, customer research tools, analytics, and social media platforms.
* Deep knowledge of the software development lifecycle and methodologies.
* Experience with SAFe, Scrum, or Kanban frameworks.
* Experience with event-driven microservices architecture.
* Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, or Octopus for automated deployments.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft .NET, Microsoft SQL, and Azure cloud services.
