Senior Structural Engineer – Principal Bridges & Structures Engineer
Based in Croydon, you will be part of a high‑performing team delivering bridge engineering schemes across the UK and overseas. You will have the flexibility of agile working between the office and home.
Job Responsibilities
* Take a leading role in the implementation of health & safety and wellbeing best practice into the delivery of all works.
* Act as a technical lead for the delivery projects. Lead, line‑manage and develop a delivery‑focused team of engineers and technicians.
* Act as Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) to trainees working toward chartership and support graduates within the team.
* Secure and deliver works to new and existing clients.
* Project‑management of schemes including client reporting, programming, resource planning and commercial management.
Qualifications
* Sound knowledge of engineering processes for investigations, assessment, refurbishment, and design of transport structures, including bridges.
* Comprehensive knowledge of constraints typically affecting existing and proposed structural assets.
* Understanding of structural mechanics and familiarity with industry‑standard analysis software; able to verify that calculations are accurate and reliable.
* Practical experience of executing works on‑site in a safe and productive way, including managing specialist subcontractors and access requirements.
* Experience running a small to medium sized team to deliver high‑quality reports and drawings, with an understanding of budget and schedule prioritisation and ability to participate in interdisciplinary reviews.
* Experience working under director‑level supervision to manage a variety of work packages and make decisions in client meetings.
* Working knowledge of structural Eurocodes, National Highways (DMRB & MCHW) and Network Rail standards.
* Good working knowledge of structural analysis software – Lusas, MIDAS, Sofistik or SBD preferred.
* Experience in the production of calculations/drawings, risk assessments, specifications and reporting, and interdisciplinary review on multi‑discipline projects (e.g., interfaces with road and rail).
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (ideally at MSc level or equivalent). Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers.
* Commitment to working a minimum of 2 days per week in our Croydon office.
* Strong technical skills in bridge engineering and a commitment to quality with a ‘right‑first‑time’ approach.
