Teignmouth Town Council is seeking a proactive and organised Project and Facilities Officer to support the delivery of council projects, manage facilities, and help maintain our community assets. This is a varied and rewarding role for someone with strong organisational skills and a commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with procurement of goods and services, ensuring best value for the council.
* Support project planning and delivery in line with council objectives.
* Maintain the asset register and buildings management system.
* Programme and monitor maintenance activities for council facilities.
* Assist with health and safety management, including risk assessments and compliance.
* Provide IT administration support (MS Office, Android/Google systems).
* Supervise and support staff and contractors as required.
* Assist with basic finance tasks: raising purchase orders, processing invoices, monitoring budgets, and supporting budget management.
* Be available on call for alarm response and emergencies.
* Support council events, including occasional work outside normal hours.
* Attend meetings, training, and undertake other duties as required.
About You
Essential:
* Experience in facilities or project support.
* Experience working with contractors/suppliers.
* Experience supervising staff or volunteers.
* Experience of health & safety practices and procedures.
* Proficient in Android/Google operating systems and MS Office.
* Good organisational and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Flexible, proactive approach and able to work under pressure.
* Good attention to detail.
* Clean, full driving licence and willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
* Willingness to work flexibly, including on-call and out-of-hours for alarms/events.
* Commitment to equality, diversity, and council values.
Desirable:
* Experience in event management or local government/public sector.
* Experience with basic finance (invoices, income, expenditure).
* COSHH and risk assessment training.
* First Aid at Work certificate.
* Knowledge of the local area.
Salary and Benefits
* Salary: £31,586 (NJC Scale 20-23)
* Hours: 37 per week
* Leave: 25 days (including 2 statutory days) plus Bank Holidays
