Overview
MAES London, a dynamic fashion studio specialising in luxury collection development, sampling and production, seeks an experienced Technical Studio Manager to lead our workroom team.
As a key client-facing representative, you will be responsible for ensuring all garments are delivered on spec, within budget and on schedule. You will lead a team of machinists, cutters and hand finishers whilst collaborating with in-house pattern cutters, technical designers and merchandisers to elevate product quality and efficiency.
We are seeking a candidate with a strong technical background in luxury product development, ideally with experience working with small ateliers or factories.
Responsibilities
Product Management & Scheduling:
* Optimise workroom (machinist, cutters and handfinisher) schedules for sampling, development and production.
* Manage individual team member schedules for maximum efficiency.
* Check in-line quality to ensure consistency in production and finished garments.
* Oversee material flow from client receipt to final dispatch.
* Proactively resolve technical challenges related to patterns, fabrics, construction and workflow.
* Resolve any construction issues at the PPS (Pre-Production Sample) stage.
* Manage client handovers, ensuring clear communication and project understanding.
* Source materials from suppliers as needed.
* Service as the primary point of contact for clients regarding product delivery.
Technical & Quality Control:
* Apply expert knowledge of pattern making, sewing techniques, seam allowances and garment construction.
* Maintain stringent quality standards aligned with MAES London and client expectations.
* Conduct meticulous garment measurement and specification checks- fill in QC report
* Develop and manage garment budgets.
* Implement tools and materials to enhance production quality.
* Refine quality control procedures through detailed Quality Reports.
* Ensure all garments are packed and dispatched according to client specifications.
Team Leadership & Culture Management:
* Recruit, onboard, train and supervise workroom staff.
* Conduct performance reviews and address performance issues.
* Manage holiday scheduling and attendance.
* Mentor and develop interns.
* Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
* Manage interns to photograph all products and help in studio management.
Studio Operations:
* Maintain a well-organised and efficient workroom.
* Conduct regular housekeeping to maintain a tidy and organised studio floor.
* Conduct a monthly stocktake of fabrics, trims and raw materials.
* Return excess stock to clients after project completion.
* Enforce studio discipline and organisational procedures.
* Manage studio resources effectively.
* Drive continuous improvement of workroom processes.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Minimum 5 years of experience in luxury garment production
* Expert knowledge of pattern making, sewing and garment construction.
