Child Protection Chair/Independent Reviewing Officer Job Overview As a Child Protection Chair/Independent Reviewing Officer, you will be responsible for chairing child protection conferences and conducting related quality assurance activities in line with statutory procedures. The ideal candidate will ensure that each child's wishes and feelings are central to their care planning, promoting best practices across the service. The role involves working 18.5 hours per week, with the expectation that the postholder can attend meetings in person at key locations such as Times Square or placement sites. The contract runs until mid-October 2026, providing stability and long-term engagement within safeguarding services. Candidate Responsibilities Chair child protection conferences, ensuring the voice of the child remains central to safeguarding arrangements. Quality assure care planning to ensure it reflects each child's wishes and feelings. Contribute to service and directorate-wide quality assurance activities to support continuous improvement. Attend all review meetings and conferences in person, ensuring consistent leadership and oversight. Travel approximately 2.5 days per week to attend meetings at designated locations. Support learning and development initiatives across the team through active participation in quality assurance processes. Candidate Requirements Proven experience as a Children’s Guardian, Child Protection Chair, or Independent Reviewing Officer. Strong understanding of child protection procedures and statutory guidance. Excellent communication and facilitation skills. Ability to attend in person at meetings and conferences.
