Job Summary

Main Duties

* Energise and guide a multi‑disciplinary team – from Consultant Psychiatrists and Specialty Doctors to Nurses, Therapists, Administrators and Support Staff.
* Champion high‑quality assessment, collaborative risk formulation and compassionate, person‑centred care planning.
* Develop, review and maintain effective systems to ensure the service is delivered according to national, CQC, local and Trust standards, policies, guidelines and local service plans.
* Contribute to strategic planning for the service to achieve and maintain a comprehensive service.
* Ensure inter‑agency protocols work effectively and are integrated with identified care pathways for children using services such as LD, ND MH or physical health services provided by other organisations.
* Represent CYPS at multi‑agency forums, steering groups and whole borough working groups.
* In partnership with professional leads develop and maintain effective systems for recruitment, supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development of the team.
* Ensure compliance with Trust requirements for clinical records, data collection and agreed activity targets.
* Conduct annual appraisals and provide performance feedback through supervision.
* Communicate effectively with the team, ensuring robust systems exist so staff feel informed and can contribute to service development.
* Implement systems for gathering, recording and evaluating accurate information about the quality and safety of the service.
* Investigate informal complaints and participate in the CYPS rota for early resolution and formal complaint investigations.
* Effectively communicate sensitive information verbally and in writing to professionals, CYP, and family/carers.
* Make presentations to formal and informal meetings within and outside the Trust.
* Write analytical reports and present these within the Trust and to external agencies.
* Work closely with the CYPS Senior Leadership Team; report to a CYPS Associate Director.
* Engage in project work, QI and service evaluation as required.

The CYPLD Service is a key part of the Mindworks Surrey alliance – an innovative emotional wellbeing and mental health system for children and young people in Surrey. You will play a vital role in bringing partners together, strengthening relationships across the alliance, and working closely with external stakeholders to deliver seamless, values‑led support.

Person Specification – Essential

* Extensive relevant management/leadership experience in LD services
* Demonstrable clinical experience working with people with LD needs
* Working knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support
* A clinical qualification to degree level or equivalent and membership of the relevant professional body (NMC/HCPC)
* Valid driving licence for use in the UK and access to a car for work purposes


Person Specification – Desirable

* Knowledge of and ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team
