What your day looks like:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Flock Service Technician acts as a consultant and technical adviser to bird growers and egg producers. This individual monitors flock records, provides poultry health services, and advises producers on Wenger’s feeding program and flock management. The technician aims to motivate positive change, foster strong relationships within our Dutchland Farms network, and ensure optimal flock health and productivity.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Perform bird health functions, including monitoring flock health and responding to issues.
* Review weekly records related to bird weight, mortality, feed consumption, and blood samples.
* Coordinate with labs for flock disease diagnostics.
* Prepare houses for new chickens.
* Monitor and address house cleanliness, ventilation, feeding/water systems, and pest control, including compliance with animal welfare and SE/PEQAP programs.
* Identify problems and work towards solutions.
* Provide recommendations on house maintenance and bird health to management, fostering positive changes.
* Implement Wenger’s feed and Master programs in line with flock health; order feeds and treatments as needed.
* Stay informed on poultry industry developments through literature and training.
* Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
* Knowledge of bird health and house management; prior flock experience preferred.
* PA Certified Poultry Technician License required.
* Strong organizational and communication skills.
* Flexibility to assist in other service areas.
* Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
* Basic computer skills.
* Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds and climb ladders.
* Valid driver’s license required.
