Position
Highly motivated, innovative, experienced and enthusiastic Bank Band 5 Primary Care Staff Nurse to join our Health & Justice team across locations in Surrey, Kent, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.
Essential Requirement
Demonstrable experience working within a prison or secure custodial healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver a high quality, accessible primary care service to patients within secure custodial settings
* Undertake assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care
* Work as part of an integrated healthcare team across primary care, mental health and substance misuse services
* Promote health, well‑being and reduce health inequalities
* Ensure care is delivered in line with CNWL standards, national guidance and prison healthcare requirements
Additional Bank Requirements
* Work flexibly across sites with minimal supervision and adapt quickly to different teams and environments
* Maintain clinical competence to work safely with limited local induction
Clinical duties
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care using care pathways and PGDs
* Deliver general primary care interventions including wound care, immunisations and health screening
* Administer medication safely
* Refer patients appropriately to mental health, substance misuse or specialist services
* Support health promotion and disease prevention clinics
Administrative duties
* Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records in line with CNWL policy
* Complete prison‑specific documentation (e.g. incident reports, security intelligence where appropriate)
* Support data collection, audits and service reporting
Education and Development
* Complete all mandatory training
* Support junior staff and peers, both formally and informally, in their development using encouragement, informal teaching and coaching activities
* Work with Senior Managers and wider multidisciplinary team to provide appropriate learning experiences for colleagues, students and others allocated to the team, facilitating new skills and knowledge required to meet changing needs
Professional
* Work within CNWL policies, NMC Code and relevant legislation
* Maintain professional accountability across varying environments
* Participate in supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development
Responsibilities Specific to the Prison Environment
* Comply with all prison security procedures and local operating protocols
* Work within restrictive regimes and adapt to operational constraints
* Communicate risk information appropriately to relevant staff
* Manage potentially challenging, unpredictable or distressing situations professionally
Working Conditions
* Staff may be exposed to distressing or emotional circumstances, such as information regarding patients’ criminal behaviour or self‑harm incidents
* Staff will be required to concentrate for periods where work is unpredictable

* Registered Adult Nurse (NMC)

Previous Experience
* Experience delivering primary care or equivalent nursing services
* Experience using SystmOne or similar clinical systems
* Experience working within integrated healthcare teams
