Our London Projects team focuses on delivering a wide range of telecoms projects for Transport for London (TfL) and several other key clients working on London's rail, underground and surface transport infrastructure. The opportunities we aim to secure vary in value between £10k and £30M and come to us through a variety of procurement methods e.g., frameworks, direct award, competitive tender.
At any time, we will be preparing MSQs, PQQS, ITTs or RFQs for multiple opportunities simultaneously. To ensure we produce compelling, compliant and competitive bid submissions that maximise our chances of success, we need a Bid Manager to lead and coordinate our teams, processes and activities.
This is a fast-paced, dynamic role that will require excellent organisational and time management skills, along with the ability to develop and nurture effective working relationships with people at all levels of our business. Reporting to the Business Planning Director, the Bid Manager will work closely with the London Projects Director and Business Development Director to take responsibility for all work winning activity.
The Bid Manager will lead and coordinate bid teams, including subject matter experts, engineering specialists, project managers, bid writers and cost engineers to produce written and financial submissions that reflect our experience and expertise, differentiate us from our competitors and ensure we meet our turnover and profit targets. They will manage the full bid lifecycle for all opportunities, ensuring alignment with our working winning and internal governance procedures.
What you'll do:
Lead and develop work winning strategies in partnership with opportunity owners and business heads
Manage the full bid lifecycle from Go/No Go stage through Deal Review, submission, post-tender evaluation and win / loss reviews
Support the Business Planning Director with pipeline management, order intake, workload planning and cost / budget forecasting and management
Support the Business Development Director to manage the opportunity pipeline, including maintaining records on our CRM and project management systems
Undertake post-tender (win and loss) reviews to drive continual improvement
Ensure our bid library is managed and maintained to make content re-usable and easy to find
Who you are:
The ideal candidate for this role will be an experienced bid professional with a strong track record of leading and delivering successful multiple small value bids running concurrently, preferably in services or solutions sectors such as telecommunications, defence, or public services. It would also suit an ambitious, established project manager who is looking to diversify their experience and gain exposure to how our business secures new work and ensures continued growth.
You will possess excellent project management, organisational, and interpersonal skills, and be capable of coordinating multidisciplinary teams to produce high-quality written and financial submissions.
The candidate should be commercially astute, confident preparing and reviewing tender responses and possess an ability to simplify complex problems and communicate effectively at all levels. A background in IT, telecoms, transportation, infrastructure or utilities would be beneficial. Experience of working or winning work with TfL (London Underground, Overground, Elizabeth Line, DLR) would be highly advantageous.
Key Requirements:
APMP or equivalent qualification (or demonstrable evidence of working towards this).
Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Knowledge and experience in responding successfully to MSQs, PQQs, ITTs, RFQs, etc for both quality/technical and financial/pricing submissions.
Extensive experience of managing and leading teams (often virtual), driving efficiencies, reviews and continual improvement ultimately leading to an improved Bid / Success conversion rate.
Strong project management, organisational and communication skills.
Financially astute with an ability to interpret and challenge pricing models and inputs.
A proven ability to prepare and review tender responses to a winning standard.
