Salary: Approx £36,573 - £41,538 including shift and weekend working allowances (NYP Scale 4-5.2)

£27,204 - £30, % shift and 46.44 hours weekend working allowance

Location: Force Control Room, Fulford Road, York

Contract: Permanent | Full time

Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off (7am-7pm days, 7pm-7am nights)

We are recruiting for multiple vacancies throughout 2026 and into 2027, so now is the perfect time to join us.

What You'll Do:

* Be the first point of contact for emergency 999 and non-emergency calls, providing professional and customer-focused support.
* Assess, prioritise, and triage calls based on urgency and available resources.
* Work with colleagues across North Yorkshire to coordinate police responses efficiently.
* Create accurate records of reported incidents in real-time, supporting effective deployment of officers.
* Facilitate communication with callers who speak little or no English, ensuring accessibility for all communities.
* Use police systems to record information related to crimes, domestic violence, road traffic collisions, and missing persons.
* Conduct Police National Computer enquiries, such as vehicle and name checks, to assist officers.
* Handle online reporting and provide guidance to members of the public.

You will complete 10 weeks of full‑time training (annual leave cannot be taken during this period).

Key Requirements:

* Strong communication and customer service skills
* Excellent IT and typing ability
* Ability to apply risk assessments (THRIVE+) after training
* Emotional resilience and professionalism
* Willingness to work a 24/7 12‑hour rotating shift pattern

To be considered, you must also:

* Have the right to work in the UK
* (Internal applicants) Have successfully completed your probation period
* Meet vetting residency requirements:
* RV Level Vetting – minimum 3 years UK residency
