What You’ll Do
* Initiate production documents to include project features by adding appropriate sections and removing unnecessary ones
* Develop and format PowerPoint slide decks that supplement live and online educational content
* Generate tables and figures in PowerPoint from text-based educational content
* Provide instruction to graphics editors to create complicated figure recreations and illustrations
* Select images from our image database to augment educational content
* Identify the need to and obtain permission from copyright holders to republish images
* Perform quality control checks throughout the content development process to ensure completeness and consistency with product standards and requirements
* Facilitate hand-off of material from editorial to web producers and manage the staging review process
* Ensure consistency and correctness in spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax, and usage per AMA and Medscape house style; apply substantive edits and offer suggestions for clarity, format, and flow while upholding the author’s voice
* Revise scientific language for usage, flow, and clarity, ensuring facts, data, and scientific units are used consistently
* Format reference citations according to modified AMA style
* Fact check and conduct other content-related quality control reviews
* Provide insight and guidance to other team members on editorial style, policies, and best practices
* Maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders through clear communication
* Convey edits and queries with a respectful tone and concise format
* Identify opportunities for process improvement
* Translation project responsibilities: review and finalize In Language documents and templates for translation, submit content to translation vendors, manage traffic between Editorial Services, vendors, and reviewers, and serve as a point of contact for external freelancers/vendors
* Finalize In Language documents and templates in preparation for the production team
* Complete other responsibilities as assigned
Who You Are
* Solid editorial background in multiple medical therapeutic areas (e.g., oncology, infectious diseases, cardiology, endocrinology, neurology) and in the healthcare industry
* Strong skills in PowerPoint and Microsoft Word
* Strong team-building and interpersonal skills with cultural awareness to work with international experts
* Focus on accuracy and consistency of work
* Self-motivated, positive, critical thinker with willingness to accept varied assignments
* Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a high-volume environment and communicate delays proactively
* Enjoy writing and wordsmithing as needed
* Comfortable in a deadline-driven environment and able to adapt to shifting priorities
* Team player who can also work independently
* Technologically savvy and quick to learn Medscape and WebMD applications and content development tools
* Willing to work overtime, as needed
What You\'ll Need to Succeed
* Bachelor degree in a life science, English, or journalism, or equivalent work experience
* Minimum of 3 years\' related medical/scientific editing experience, preferably in a large medical education and/or medical communications company
* Proven medical editing skills with high attention to detail across diverse medical areas
* In-depth knowledge of medical/scientific phrasing and terminology, including statistical concepts
* Understanding of editorial processes and procedures
* Proficient in AMA style and in-house styles
* Familiarity with PubMed and similar sites to locate scientific publications
* Expertise using PowerPoint masters, animations, and slide formatting per templates
* Efficient skills in developing and editing Word documents and image searches
* Excellent time management and organizational skills for multi-tasking in a global, deadline-driven environment
* Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and proactively address issues
* Self-motivated with positive energy and willingness to take varied assignments
* Strong focus on accuracy and consistency without being officious
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent computer software skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint Online, Gmail)
Preferred Qualifications
* Board-certified editor in the life sciences (BELS)
* Experience editing independent medical education materials
* Understanding of ACCME/EBAC/EACCME guidelines is a plus
* Experience editing non-native English writing
* Experience with SharePoint Online and web-based document sharing
* Experience with project management tools (e.g., WorkFront, ProofHQ, MS Project)
* Experience with ReadCube or other referencing software
