We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward thinking pharmacist to gain experience in Gastroenterology whilst the current post holder is on maternity leave.
The Gastroenterology service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust cares for over 6000 patients across 3 hospital sites, with over 1000 patients prescribed biologic therapy. As the successful candidate you will support the virtual Multidisciplinary Team reviewing patients prescribed biologic medicines, as well as provide clinical & directorate support to gastroenterology in-patients, out-patients & also endoscopy services. A good understanding of the out of tariff funding process for medicines is required as you will be expected to monitor & manage funding applications for these drugs within Gastroenterology.
You will be self-motivated and organised with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will need to be able to develop effective working relationships with a wide range of professionals. You will need good IT skills and be able to work with many different IT programs & databases.
Applicants should be a pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You should have a postgraduate clinical diploma or equivalent experiential learning.

Main duties of the job
1. To lead, manage and develop a high quality patient focused pharmacy service to Gastroenterology patients
2. To take active part in the multidisciplinary team meetings for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) gastroenterology patients prescribed biologic medicines to ensure prescribing & doses are appropriate.
3. To ensure all gastroenterology patients prescribed out of tariff medicines are funded appropriately.
4. To lead work with the specialist nurses & consultants to implement biosimilar adoption programmes when appropriate products become available.
5. To facilitate the efficient and cost effective use of medicines within the speciality, provide a ward pharmacy service to Gastroenterology in-patients and provide a pro-active pharmacy service to endoscopy and Gastroenterology out-patients.
6. To work with the other specialist pharmacists to develop robust switching processes to be used in future biologic switching programmes.
7. To report of financial savings from MDTs, biosimilar switching, CIP schemes as appropriate.
8. To work with the Homecare Pharmacy Technician & other Specialist Pharmacist to improve mechanisms to minimise ‘waste’ with Homecare biologics. Examples of mechanisms include: monitoring dose changes; monitoring prescription requests and monitoring medicine supplies.

Essential criteria
9. Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
10. Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
11. Higher degree or diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate experience
12. Undertakes continuing professional development
13. (CPD) and maintains a CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
14. Qualified as an Independent Prescriber
15. Related Post Graduate Qualification

Experience
Essential criteria
18. Appropriate post-registration training and experience in hospital Pharmacy in the UK - this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, aseptic services, ward services and dispensing)
19. Experience of working with Gastroenterology patients
20. Experience of managing funding applications for PbR excluded drugs
21. Practical Clinical experience with broad knowledge of therapeutics
22. Evidence of effective independent & multidisciplinary team working
23. Knowledge of the processes by which home delivery of medicines is provided by the NHS
