Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well motivated individual, to join the Surgery Care Group as a Service Manager for Pain Management. The post will be based at either York or Scarborough Hospital, however, there will be requirement to travel and work at either Hospital.

The successful candidate requires excellent communication and team working skills, and will work closely with clinical and non-clinical staff on a daily basis, organising and prioritising both their own workload and that of others. They must have the ability to exercise sound judgement in relation to problem solving, and the ability to practice delegation, negotiation and motivation skills. Most importantly the candidate must have a flexible and patient centred approach.

Main duties of the job

1. Provide management support on a daily basis and cover for management colleagues on more general issues throughout the Care Group as and when required. The focus of this is to manage day to day operational issues to ensure smooth running of all
Care Group services.
2. Contribute to the achievement of the Care Group Plan, establishing appropriate
systems for providing timely and accurate management information. Compile, analyse and present appropriate performance management information
3. Support the Care Group/Operational Service Manager in investigating and responding to complaints received in an appropriate and timely manner, in accordance with agreed Trust procedures.
4. With Care Group staff, co-ordinate and develop best practice in User Involvement in line with Trust strategy.
5. To be responsible for the monitoring of patient pathways including undertaking activity and waiting list monitoring for both Outpatient and Inpatient patients to enable the specialty to meet access targets.
6. Assist the Operational Service Manager in the maintenance and development of clinic/theatre timetables.
7. Oversee the management of clinic templates and appointment systems and theatre/procedure scheduling.
8. Support Care Group Manager in implementing Trust policies, including Health and Safety, AIRS reporting, Fire, Security.
9. Any other reasonable duties as may be required by the Clinical / Deputy Clinical Director, Matron or Care Group / Operational Service Manager.

Knowledge, training and experience

Essential criteria

18. Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent. Maths and English at C or above – or equivalent qualification/demonstrable experience.
19. Educated to Degree Level OR have equivalent experience
20. Previous Administrative experience (3 years minimum), including a minimum of 1 year’s Staff Management/ Supervisory experience
21. Word Processing and Computer literacy skills to RSA3/NVQ3 Level
22. Previous experience of dealing with sensitive and/or complex situations

Desirable criteria

23. ECDL
24. Understanding of RTT 18- week pathway
25. Experience of working within the NHS

26. Self-discipline/motivated to function independently, but also able to motivate others

27. Able to organise and prioritise both own workload and that of others as required
