The RAN network has grown increasingly complex over recent years. We now have 3 technology layers, with multiple carriers. The technology can be delivered in hundreds of combinations depending on the environment and capacity to support our customers. This is delivered by three main macro vendors.
As an Interface Designer, you will be responsible for delivering the E2E technical solutions deployed within the RAN, this includes complete Radio Network Design (All technologies) and ensuring that the produced designs meet the quality within the agreed time frame to keep EE number 1. You will primarily cover Mission Critical Network design on 4G & 5G+. Ensure the work is delivered with the high standard in the challenging timeframe.
You’ll work with the wider Design/strategy teams and vendor to deliver and deploy the designs as per the agreed network strategy within the software cycles. Co-ordinate with vendors and test partners to meet the business needs.
You will be required to undergo National Security Vetting to SC or NPPV level.
What you’ll be doing
* Creating and implementing technical solutions for a domain or cross domains / portfolios of work within a specific technology area autonomously, understanding how solutions impact systems internally and/or externally and assessing impact of change.
* Providing technical quality assurance over work of other engineers through matrix team structure.
* Providing sound technical expertise to consult on significant component(s) of a technical solution within a specific domain or cross domain.
* Identifying opportunities to improve standards of practice within a project, continuously enhancing ways of working.
* Delivering resolutions to problems that tend to be complex, cross-domain or of high impact to customers.
* Work both within the team and across the department to ensure deliveries are on time, and to a high level of quality
* Work in conjunction with internal Design/Optimization/Deployment/Operations and our external customers and suppliers to ensure appropriate End to End solutions are delivered to ensure RAN Design & Customer experience KPI Targets are maintained/exceeded
* Support the field trials of new products, software releases and features prior to wider deployments.
* Liaise with wider teams to develop design scopes & requirements
* Develop, review & comment on low level designs from vendors.
* Analyse and inform technical projects, ensuring planned deliveries are achievable, they call on the most appropriate technical options available and are effectively managing risks and issues.
* Deliver process optimisation that brings benefits to both our customers and to BT.
* Ensuring the EE network remains the number one performing network in the UK
* Driving the vendor to meet BT’s targets.
What we would like to see on your CV
* Expert knowledge and hands on 4G & 5G (NSA & SA) design experience.
* Experience in Mobile Radio Access Network Design, planning or delivery in 4G or 5G.
* Familiarity with test software & devices (Accuver).
* Able to analyse in depth, drive test logs, Wireshark traces and protocol analysers traces for 4G & 5G networks
* Proven experience working with and building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders up to Director level
