The Role
Location: Derby – Hybrid (twice a week in the office)
Position Summary: This role requires an experienced BI Engineer to support our data team in a hybrid capacity, combining business intelligence development with data engineering responsibilities. The successful candidate will maintain and develop our PowerBI reporting infrastructure while building and optimizing data pipelines within our analytics platform.
Key Accountabilities
* Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python and SQL
* Develop and optimise data workflows within the Snowflake environment
* Monitor data quality, reliability and performance across pipeline processes
* Troubleshoot data issues and implement solutions
* Establish data integration processes with source system owners
* Create and maintain PowerBI data models with a focus on performance optimisation
* Develop interactive dashboards and reports for business stakeholders
* Support and enhance existing PowerBI reports based on user requirements
* Document all BI assets and processes
Stakeholder Management
* Gather and translate business requirements into technical solutions
* Collaborate with business users and provide training on self‑service capabilities
* Work with the data engineering team on cross‑functional projects
* Support ad‑hoc analytical requests
Technical Skills
* Snowflake: Data warehouse experience including SQL optimisation
* SQL: Advanced skills in complex queries, stored procedures and performance tuning
* ETL/ELT: Experience building and maintaining data integration processes
Experience & Knowledge
* Minimum 2 years relevant experience in BI, data engineering or analytics
* Understanding of data architecture principles and data warehouse concepts
* Track record of delivering end‑to‑end data solutions
* Experience working with business stakeholders to gather requirements
* Proven ability to work independently on complex data problems
Soft Skills
* Strong problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail
* Ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences
* Collaborative working style suitable for agile environments
* Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and data services
* Knowledge of data visualisation best practices
* Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD
