Role Overview
The Head of Commercial Services will lead and grow a unique portfolio of student‑led businesses, including our on‑site Restaurant, AirBnB, and Theatre. The role involves ensuring commercial ventures operate to the highest standards, embedding enterprise into education, and collaborating with facilities and curriculum teams.
* Lead the College’s commercial ventures, ensuring high standards of service, professionalism, and profitability.
* Act as the face of microbusinesses, creating welcoming, customer‑focused environments that reflect the College’s values.
* Embed enterprise into education, working closely with curriculum teams to provide students with hands‑on experience in running real businesses.
* Collaborate with the Director of Estates to ensure all facilities supporting these ventures are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.
* Drive innovation and growth, identifying new income‑generating opportunities through lettings, events, and student enterprise.
* Support internal events, ensuring seamless delivery through effective coordination with facilities and commercial teams.
* Provide line management and leadership to catering and cleaning teams, working with the Director of Estates to ensure efficient, customer‑focused and financially sustainable services.
* Oversee the management of commercial operations within the College, ensuring financial targets are met and operations remain within identified budgets.
* Support the integration of student learning into microbusiness activities, ensuring students gain meaningful, structured, and supervised work experience.
* Ensure microbusinesses reflect Bath College’s value, brand, and reputation for excellence in hospitality, service and innovation.
* Maintain compliance with licensing, risk assessments, safeguarding, and student learning outcomes across all microbusiness areas.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
* Proven experience in managing commercial services or customer‑facing operations.
* A passion for education and empowering young people through enterprise.
* Strong leadership and organisational skills.
* A collaborative mindset and the ability to work across departments.
* A commitment to delivering high‑quality, student‑centred experiences.
* Level 7 in a Management or Facilities Management field, or at least 10 years relevant experience.
* Level 3 Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain it).
* Understanding of Microsoft 365 applications for efficient business management.
* Knowledge of effective procurement and budget management in hospitality or facilities environments.
* Experience in increasing income within a hospitality or leisure industry setting.
