Job Overview
This is a substantive full‑time post for a Consultant in Ophthalmology at Frimley Park Hospital. The role comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs) and two theatre sessions per week. The successful appointee will base at Frimley Park but may attend clinics at other sites within Frimley Health. The post holder will play a key role in overseeing the emergency service and deliver high level acute ophthalmology care. Experience in high volume low complexity (HVLC) cataract surgery lists is essential.
Main Duties
The Eye Treatment Centre at Frimley Park Hospital has sixteen consulting rooms and twin ophthalmic theatres. Outpatient and theatre facilities are also available at the new hospital build in Heatherwood, Ascot. The post will be part of a team of thirteen consultants, delivering a comprehensive service to the wider community. A job plan will include emergency/general clinics and HVLC surgical sessions.
On‑Call Duties
1:10 on‑call rota. One half‑day per month is dedicated to audit and teaching; routine work is suspended during this time. All staff are expected to attend except those providing emergency cover. Staff are encouraged to take study leave and must meet CPD and revalidation requirements. Full participation in formal and informal teaching of medical and other staff is expected as part of supporting professional activities.

Essential Criteria
* Full GMC registration
* FRCOphth or equivalent
* GMC Specialist Registration
* Leadership skills
* Innovative thinking
* Excellent communication skills
* Energy to enthuse and motivate others
* Wide grounding during training in all aspects of Ophthalmology
* Demonstrable special interest
* Willingness to be involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level
* Understanding of audit and evidence‑based practice
* Live within ten miles or thirty minutes travelling time of Frimley Hospital
Desirable Criteria
* Higher qualifications
* Flexibility and experience of sub‑specialty clinics, including neuro ophthalmology and paediatrics
* Previous experience in teaching and training
* Relevant research
* Experience using Epic electronic patient record
* Willingness to be involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level
