Job Description
Role Overview
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for producing safe, compliant, and cost‑effective electrical designs for water and wastewater treatment projects. This includes LV power distribution, MCCs, ICA interfaces, standby generation, cabling, lighting, and integration with process and MEICA systems. The role supports feasibility, outline design, detailed design, construction support and commissioning phases.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop electrical engineering designs for water and wastewater assets, including LV power distribution systems, motor control centres (MCCs), variable speed drives (VSDs), control panels & ICA integration, pumping systems, chemical dosing & treatment process equipment, earthing & bonding systems, cable calculations, routing & containment, lighting, small power, emergency systems and standby generators & UPS systems where applicable.
* Prepare design deliverables such as single line diagrams (SLDs), load schedules & discrimination studies, cable sizing calculations, control philosophies, electrical layouts & schematics, equipment specifications & datasheets, bills of materials.
* Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (BS EN, water industry design specifications, BS 7671, CDM regulations, functional safety requirements). Apply safe‑by‑design principles and participate in HAZOP, HAZCOM, risk reviews, design reviews, value engineering and optimisation.
* Work closely with civil, mechanical, ICA and process engineers to ensure integrated MEICA designs. Provide electrical input at all project stages (feasibility, outline design, detailed design, construction).
* Support procurement by preparing technical specifications, evaluating supplier proposals; provide design support during installation, testing & commissioning; engage with subcontractors, OEMs and supply chain partners.
* Produce high‑quality engineering documentation, ensure version control & traceability; contribute to O&M manuals, asset information & as‑built documentation; guarantee compliance with internal and client quality processes and digital delivery requirements (e.g., BIM Level 2).
