Job Overview
A Registered Paramedic will deliver comprehensive medical care within Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust's prison settings. Responsibilities include working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, treat, and discharge patients, and providing clinical support to less experienced staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a positive role model to staff and patients.
* Conduct invasive procedures and minor interventions such as suturing, IV access, haemorrhage control, and wound care, where trained and competent.
* Respond to all emergency codes and serve as an emergency responder covering prison night shifts.
* Perform cardiac and CVA interventions, monitor vital signs with a structured approach, recognize ECG changes, and follow pathways for acute cardiovascular events.
* Determine appropriate patient disposition, initiate treatment linked to regulated care pathways, and coordinate with health, mental, and social care professionals for non‑hospital transport.
* Assess individual health needs and conduct first‑ and second‑line reception screens.
* Provide holistic care and ensure adherence to local guidelines and the Trust's clinical protocols.
* Administer prescribed medication and medication under Patient Group Directions or Independent Nurse Prescribing, where qualified.
* Advise on smoking restrictions within the prison environment.
* Develop and maintain advanced clinical skills, including paramedic‑led clinics.
* Refer or sign‑post patients to appropriate health professionals and services.
* Provide patient information and education.
* Maintain compliance with professional conduct, infection control standards, and fire safety procedures.
* Support line managers, junior staff, and students, and participate in standard setting and clinical supervision.
* Maintain a personal and professional development plan, appraise performance with mentors, supervisors, and line managers.
