3 months contract with local authority We are seeking a Highway Maintenance Officer to oversee and manage highway maintenance works, ensuring the safe and effective management of the highway network. The ideal candidate will work closely with local communities, contractors, and relevant agencies to maintain the highway to a high standard and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction. The Highway Maintenance Officer will play a vital role as the Council’s front-line representative on the network, responding to incidents and ensuring the safe operation of the highway. Responsibilities Highway Inspection: Inspect the highway network, document findings, and ensure statutory duties are fulfilled. Investigation: Respond to reported faults, conduct on-site investigations, and prepare for cyclical maintenance activities. Incident Management: Respond to unforeseen incidents on the highway network and take action to ensure safe operation. Ordering & Managing of Works: Place orders for highway maintenance works, establish costs, and review progress through completion. Programming & Planning: Plan and coordinate a series of works to minimize disruption and prioritize urgent works. Community Engagement: Work in partnership with local communities, including Parish and Town Councils, and engage campaign groups to understand their priorities and aspirations. Leadership: Adopt and promote a “one team” approach and cross-team working to ensure a holistic approach to highway maintenance. Demonstrate Awareness and Understanding: Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion. Requirements Requirements: Proven experience in highway maintenance or a related field Knowledge of statutory duties related to highway maintenance Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively with local communities and campaign groups Leadership and team management skills Awareness and understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion Commitment to contributing to organizational goals, such as becoming a Net Zero organization by 2030
