English and Maths Tutor Job Description The English and Maths Tutor provides high-quality, tailored tuition to learners seeking to improve their skills and knowledge in English and Mathematics. Job Duties Plan, prepare, and deliver effective one-to-one or small group tuition sessions in English and Mathematics. Assess learners’ current abilities and identify areas for development. Develop personalised learning materials and resources to support individual learner needs. Monitor and record learners’ progress, providing regular feedback to learners and relevant stakeholders. Encourage and motivate learners to engage with learning and achieve their targets. Adapt teaching methods and materials to suit different learning styles and abilities. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of tuition sessions and learner outcomes. Ensure compliance with safeguarding and health and safety policies at all times. Participate in relevant training and professional development activities as required. Required Qualifications Recognised Level 3 qualification or above in English and/or Mathematics. Teaching qualification or relevant tutoring certification is desirable. Education Minimum of GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics. Further education or degree-level qualification in a relevant subject is advantageous. Experience Proven experience delivering tuition or teaching English and Mathematics to learners of varied ages and abilities. Experience in assessing learner progress and adapting teaching accordingly. Experience working in an educational or training environment is preferred. Knowledge and Skills Strong subject knowledge in English and Mathematics. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, adapting language to suit learner needs. Good organisational skills with the ability to plan lessons and manage time efficiently. Proficient in using educational resources and technology to support learning. Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and inspire learners. Understanding of safeguarding principles and commitment to learner wellbeing. Preferred Qualifications Teaching Qualification such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent. Experience working with learners with additional learning needs or disabilities. Familiarity with national curriculum requirements and examination board specifications. Working Conditions The position is temporary and involves part-time hours, offering flexibility to suit the candidate’s availability. Sessions may take place in educational settings, community centres, or learners’ homes within Oxfordshire and the surrounding area. The role requires adherence to safeguarding and health and safety regulations at all times. Some travel within the local area may be necessary.
