The Met Office is delighted to open our advertising for Industrial Placements 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month Year in Industry placement, commencing at the start of July 2026, developing your skills and knowledge and ensuring you gain the most value possible from your experience with us.
You will have the opportunity to network with our cohort of Industrial Placements all over the Met Office and understand what career opportunities are on offer at the Met Office after you graduate .
We’re looking for Climate Monitoring and Attribution Industrial Placement 2026 to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our Climate Monitoring and Attribution Industrial Placement, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home.This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work. As an Industrial Placement, we would expect you to attend the office once a week as a minimum.

Our Industrial Placement scheme offers ambitious and capable undergraduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience working alongside diverse and highly skilled experts in their field. You’ll be working on projects that really matter and will make a difference.
This role contributes to the work of the Climate Monitoring and Attribution group in Climate Science.This team work together to use observations to monitor and understand changes in global and national climate, and combine these with information from climate models to attribute observed changes to their cause, particularly the role of human-induced climate change .The impacts of climate change are most directly felt through extreme weather and climate events such as heatwaves, floods, droughts and storms, and the team also undertake attribution studies that quantify how much climate change has affected the likelihood and severity of certain extreme weather events.
As an industrial placement you will develop skills, through working with experienced scientists and scientific software engineers to help develop new products for monitoring and attribution of changes in UK climate.Our work is used internationally and we provide climate information to the UK government and the general public.

* Working with others to ensure the outputs are robust, accessible, and of high quality.
* Analysing extreme weather events that have affected the UK.
* Communicating the purpose and function of the system and methods to colleagues.

Whilstthis is a temporary position until July 2027, there may be an opportunity to apply for our Graduate Development scheme upon completion of your university studies.However, this is not guaranteed and would be subject to programme availability and a successful application.

* You will be studying for a degree in a STEM subject (We Keep Evolving).
