Intensive Community Support Clinical Lead (Project 2000 Tomorrows)

Are you an experienced and passionate clinician ready to lead a pioneering service for young people with complex needs? Do you thrive in innovative, multi-agency environments where your leadership can drive real change?We're launching a transformative Intensive Community Support Programme in Newham, and we're looking for a dynamic Clinical Team Lead to shape and lead this new model of care.

About the Role

As Clinical Team Lead, you'll lead a small, specialist team delivering flexible, therapeutic, community-based support to young people aged 13-18 who are at risk of family or placement breakdown based within Newham Council's Edge of Care Service. This is not a traditional crisis or inpatient role, this is a unique opportunity to lead a service that offers early, intensive support in the community, tailored to the needs of young people with complex presentations.You will be based within Newham Council's Edge of Care Service and work closely with partners across health, social care, and education to deliver high-impact interventions and reduce the need for restrictive practices.


Main duties of the job

What You'll Be Doing

* Provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for the Intensive Community Support team
* Lead on complex assessments, formulations, and interventions
* Be supported by up to four staff from a range of specialisms
* Offer expert consultation, supervision, and training to professionals and care teams
* Drive service development, evaluation, and quality improvement
* Foster strong multi-agency partnerships and system-wide collaboration
* Champion inclusive, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-aware care pathways

Job responsibilities

What Were Looking For

* Professional registration (e.g. Clinical Psychologist, Systemic Psychotherapy, RMN, OT, Social Worker, Child Psychotherapist)
* Substantial experience in CAMHS or related services, including leadership roles
* Expertise in working with young people with complex needs, neurodiversity, and trauma
* Strong clinical supervision and service development skills
* Experience in safeguarding and risk management
* Knowledge of trauma-informed care models
* Experience in service evaluation, audit, and quality improvement
* Knowledge of Positive Behavioural Support care models

Person Specification


Education and Qualifications

* Registered Mental Health clinician with equivalent professional registration (e.g. RMN, OT, Social worker).
* Current professional registration
* Qualification in appropriate mental health/social welfare profession including: Clinical Psychologist / Counselling Psychologist/Systemic Psychotherapist / Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health or LD) / Social Worker/Child psychotherapist
* Appropriate level of qualification for your profession e.g. BSc, Masters or Doctorate
* Registration with your appropriate body (e.g., NMC, HCPC, etc.)
* Evidence of post qualification study and personal development (e.g. Advanced nurse practitioner, PBS trainer).
* Positive Behaviour Support training with recognised provider.
* Qualifications/ training in specialist skills e.g. systemic therapies, neuropsychology
* Leadership training


Knowledge and Experience

* Significant experience of working with CYP and Families.
* Experience of securing practice initiatives and service improvements and developments.
* Experience and knowledge of working in a trauma informed way.
* Senior clinical experience in the assessment and management of complex issues in CAMHS setting such as challenging behavior, dynamics etc.
* Experience of Crisis and Risk Management.
* Experience of setting therapeutic boundaries with patients and care givers who exhibit extreme challenging and high-risk behaviors that require advanced interventions to enable effective de-escalation.
* Experience of teaching staff advanced skills in setting boundaries, de-escalation and diffusion techniques.
* Experience of promotion of the Recovery Model
* Experience of multi-professional collaboration at a senior level
* Partnership working with other statutory and voluntary agencies
* Experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care
* Able to facilitate multidisciplinary debriefing, critical analysis meetings
* Able to work systematically and objectively in a challenging situation.
* Able to take the lead in highly volatile situations
* Able to communicate complex and sensitive issues to a range of audiences around behavioural management for young people with significant behaviour that challenges and/or mental health problems
* Knowledge of Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) models


Knowledge and Experience B

* Knowledge of data systems and IT.
* Experience of Positive Risk Taking and WRAP.
* Experience of variety of clinical areas, e.g. community, crisis & inpatient CAMHS services.

* Excellent communication skills and liaison skills.
* Organisational and time management skills.
* Performance management.
* Negotiation and resolution skills
