Youth Engagement Mentor (SEMH) – Kitts Green Academy Location: Kitts Green Academy, Birmingham, B33 Type: Full-Time / Long-Term Salary: £85–£95 per day (depending on experience and/or qualifications) Start Date: Immediate / January 2026 The School and Role ABC Teachers are seeking a confident, positive, and resilient Youth Engagement Mentor (SEMH) to join Kitts Green Academy, an all-boys SEMH specialist primary school within the Thrive Education Partnership. As a Youth Engagement Mentor (SEMH), you will support pupils who face social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, helping them engage with learning, regulate emotions, and develop positive relationships. You will work alongside teachers, Behaviour Mentors, and therapeutic staff to provide consistency, structure, and tailored support throughout the school day. This role is perfect for individuals with experience in youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, residential care, or community support, especially those passionate about improving outcomes for young people with additional needs. Key Responsibilities Support pupils aged 5–11 with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Build strong and trusting relationships using restorative and trauma-informed approaches. Help pupils regulate emotions and behaviour using personalised strategies. Encourage positive learning attitudes and re-engage pupils who are reluctant learners. Work with teachers to adapt activities and provide 1:1 or small-group support. Supervise during unstructured times such as breaks, lunch, and transitions. Be a positive role model who motivates pupils and inspires confidence and resilience. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Experience working with young people in youth work, behaviour support, SEMH, sports coaching, or community mentoring. A calm, resilient, and nurturing approach. Confidence managing challenging behaviours in a positive, proactive way. Strong communication and teamwork skills. A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply). Training and guidance will be provided for those new to SEMH or school-based roles.
