Overview
Program facilitators deliver accredited programmes and structured interventions to people who are subject to community orders or licence after release from prison. The role is primarily based in the region with regular travel to multiple sites. Unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends, are expected and paid at an additional 30%.
Responsibilities
* Deliver group work and one‑to‑one sessions to people with a full range of offence types, including domestic abuse, sexual abuse and other violent and acquisitive offences.
* Use evidence‑based accredited programmes to reduce re‑offending, protect the public, and support rehabilitation.
* Monitor progress, risk and well‑being throughout the intervention; keep accurate records and share insights with relevant teams.
* Work closely with courts, criminal justice agencies and probation practitioners to support sentence management.
* Provide workshops and briefings to probation staff and external stakeholders.
* Travel to different locations to deliver programmes and claim travel expenses.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Right to work in the United Kingdom.
* Experience and knowledge of working with offenders and mitigating factors that contribute to re‑offending.
* Ability to manage group dynamics, address challenging behaviour and maintain a safe and structured environment.
* Proven communication, influencing and self‑development skills.
* Assessment will consider the Behaviours of Communicating and Influencing, Developing Self and Others, and Managing a Quality Service.
* Must be prepared to work unsocial hours and travel as required.
Probation Employment Pathway (PEP)
PEP is an exception to fair and open competition, available to anyone who within the last 10 years has received a custodial conviction, a community sentence, a conditional discharge or an out‑of‑court disposal. Eligible applicants who pass assessment are offered up to a two‑year fixed‑term appointment under the Accredited Exception 2 scheme within the Civil Service Recruitment Principles.
Working Arrangements
Standard full‑time hours are 37 hours per week, excluding unpaid breaks. The role encourages regular unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends. Travel within a 60‑minute commute from home location is expected; travel expenses can be claimed. Hybrid working arrangements are possible where business need allows.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range starts at £26,475. Additional pay is provided for unsocial hours (30% for evenings, 50% for Saturdays). Annual progress is available through a Competency Based Framework. Benefits include 25 days annual leave (increasing to 30 days after five years), pension through the Local Government Pension Scheme, and a range of training and development opportunities. Right to Work and Visa
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. The role is not eligible for a new Skilled Worker visa. Those who held a Skilled Worker visa before 22 July 2025 may be considered; others must ensure they meet the eligibility criteria for the UK following immigration changes.
