Overview
We have an opportunity for a Grade 3 Sample Registration supervisor in the Operational Support team at Monitoring Laboratories’ Starcross Site. The post will be a permanent contract, 37 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday, with a 06:00 start time.
Responsibilities
* Carrying out the registration of samples received into the laboratory from both the Environment Agency (EA) and external customers. The role requires delivering a wide-ranging workload to specific timescales and working closely with other teams.
* Supporting the laboratory teams and Scientists to deliver their analysis programmes.
* Working closely with Customer Services teams, Facilities and Bottle Dispatch colleagues to achieve shared outcomes.
* Apply knowledge in troubleshooting registration issues.
* Promote health, safety and wellbeing and ensure safe working practices in line with Environment Agency guidance.
* Work with senior team members to deliver team priorities and environmental objectives, delivering to specified objectives, standards and service levels.
* Assist with laboratory pollution incident response when required.
* Provide support and supervision to Operations Support team members in collaboration with other supervisors.
* Use standard IT packages efficiently and learn specialised systems as required.
* Promote inclusion by respecting differences in the workforce and build a supportive and engaging workplace.
* Understand colleagues and partners’ requirements and communicate the work of the Environment Agency.
The team
The Monitoring Laboratories Service provides the Environment Agency with analytical data from environmental samples. Operational Support supports the Starcross site to enable efficient and compliant analysis, covering sample registration, general administration, building management, lab support and bottle dispatch.
Experience / skills Required
Excellent communication and time management skills are essential. Ideally, you will have experience in a laboratory setting and enjoy working in a busy team environment.
You will be able to demonstrate the following:
* An understanding of the impact of pollution and reasons for monitoring via environmental sampling.
* Awareness of laboratory quality control procedures and the team’s role in maintaining them.
* Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers.
* Delivery of work by managing workload and resources.
* Customer focus, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes.
* Good organisational and IT skills, including MS Office.
Contact and additional information
All new staff must undertake training and participate in incident response duties as needed. Full training will be provided. The role is non-hybrid and based at Starcross Laboratory with occasional travel for meetings and training.
