The role
St Benedict's Catholic Primary School are seeking a dedicated and flexible School Maintenance Officer to maintain a safe, secure, and clean environment for our children, staff, and parish community. This is a permanent, part-time position that plays a vital role in upholding the high standards of our school premises.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the team, carrying out day-to-day repairs, general maintenance, and decorative work (including painting and minor repairs) across our school site.
Key Details and Responsibilities
Hours of Work: 20 hours per week, 48 weeks per year.
Working Pattern: We offer flexible hours that may incorporate split-shift hours or be worked as a block to cover the security and operational needs of the school opening and closing times. This will be agreed with the successful candidate
Main Duties:
1. Performing minor repairs, maintenance, and internal decorating (painting).
2. Liaising with and supervising external tradesmen and contractors.
3. Ensuring the security and access of the premises, including locking up and setting the alarm.
4. Undertaking routine checks to ensure statutory Health & Safety compliance.
5. Managing the school site's operational needs and setting up for school/parish events.
6. The ability to work on step ladders is essential
7. Maintenance will include (but is not limited to): Weekly flushes, Visual inspections, Meter readings, Gutter maintenance, Drain maintenance, Cold weathering, gritting etc and Signage
The successful candidate will be line managed by the Head/Deputy Head Teacher.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone with a strong practical background and a proactive attitude. Experience in maintenance or a similar role is essential. Knowledge of compliance software systems (like iAM Compliant or similar H&S logging tools) is an advantage, but full training will be provided to the successful candidate.
