Assistant Project Manager – Utility Arboriculture Location: Cambridge & Surrounding Areas Salary: Competitive Contract Type: Permanent Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday _________________________________________________________________________ Do you thrive outdoors and have a knack for leading teams and delivering complex projects with precision? What you’ll do: Ground Control is looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join our dynamic Utility Arboriculture division. This isn’t a desk job — you’ll be in the field managing vegetation clearance projects that support the safety and resilience of the UK’s power infrastructure. You’ll lead the charge in ensuring that our field teams are empowered, efficient, and consistently delivering top-quality work across your region. Key Responsibilities: Coordinating and managing tree cutting and vegetation clearance works around powerlines Driving performance and efficiency across field teams, ensuring KPIs are met or exceeded Planning work programmes, overseeing budgets, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining quality standards Supporting surveyor development and resolving issues related to land access, TPOs, SSSIs, and consent Managing and mentoring junior staff to grow future leaders Maintaining accurate reporting and client communication Auditing works and improving operational practices for safety, environmental and customer excellence What we’re looking for: Experience in a field operations, utilities, environmental, or vegetation management setting Strong team management and coordination skills Practical understanding of project planning and budget oversight A proactive approach to solving challenges and managing multiple priorities Proficiency in IT tools for scheduling, reporting and communication A full UK driving licence (essential) Any experience in tree work, horticulture, or arboriculture is a plus, but not essential Why join us: Career Development Focus: We’re committed to supporting your professional growth with clear career paths, training, and tailored development programs, including our GC Leadership Academy, job specific accreditations and higher education opportunities.
