Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Chemist with experience in the steel industry to join our clients team in West Bromwich. The role involves carrying out chemical and physical analyses to ensure process control, quality assurance, and compliance with international standards. This is a hands-on laboratory position within a fast-paced industrial environment.Key Responsibilities:Prepare samples for chemical testing using cutting, milling, and grinding equipmentPerform chemical analysis of molten metal using optical emission spectrometryConduct gas analysis and carbon-sulphur analysis using IR combustion techniquesAnalyse raw materials for chemical composition and suitabilityMonitor steel cleanliness, inclusion content, and homogeneity through macro preparationEnsure all laboratory testing complies with national and international standardsVerify steel, cobalt, and nickel grades meet customer specifications before dispatchProduce and verify certification for material dispatchProvide rapid and accurate test results to production teams for process adjustmentsMaintain accurate documentation of results, calibration records, and equipment maintenanceFollow SOPs and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) proceduresEnsure compliance with AS9100D quality management systems and safety protocolsCandidate Requirements:Minimum 2 years experience in a laboratory environment, preferably within steel or metalsHands-on expertise within optical emission spectrometry and Leco instrumentsStrong knowledge of steel grades and metallurgical principlesFamiliarity with quality standards is desirable (ISO, ASTM, IS codes)High attention to detail in testing and reportingProficiency in chemical analysis techniques and instrumentsEffective communication skills for coordination with production and quality teamsAbility to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced industrial environmentBenefits:Competitive salary (dependent on experience)4-day working week (Monday to Thursday)Excellent career development opportunities in a growing steel businessTemporary to permanent positionTPBN1_UKTJ
