Position: We are seeking a Research Associate in Active Acoustic Monitoring of Offshore Wind Ecosystem Effects to be based at our ERI in Thurso.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and apply processing techniques to active acoustic data from multi-frequency echosounders on autonomous landers and ships.
2. Discriminate large zooplankton, individual fish, and schools, including investigating differences between species groups.
3. Investigate mechanisms affecting prey fish presence and behavior around fixed and floating offshore wind farms.
4. Contribute to the design and data collection of upcoming multi-platform and multi-ship field campaigns in 2025, 2026, and beyond.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
1. First degree, PhD, or equivalent professional qualification, with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
2. Ability to prepare research proposals, conduct individual research, and disseminate results.
3. Experience with scientific echosounder data collection, calibration, processing, and analysis.
4. Interest in oceanography and ecosystem effects of large-scale marine structures and predator-prey interactions.
5. Academic teaching experience is advantageous.
6. Gaelic language ability is advantageous.
