Contract: 24 months (fixed term) – September 2026 to September 2028

Job overview
Earn a wage while training to achieve a nationally recognised qualification to become a Pharmacy Technician. Full educational support is provided and you will need to quickly learn new IT systems and embrace new technology to provide safe and effective care.
Main responsibilities
* Dispense prescriptions for inpatient, outpatient and discharge medication and ward stock controlled drugs in accordance with legal and departmental procedures.
* Assist with pharmacy reception duties, including responding to telephone calls and visitors, and inputting prescriptions onto the electronic tracking system.
* Process and assemble orders of stock items for wards, departments and other hospitals.
* Check inpatient prescriptions, identify required medications, order medications using the EPMA system and refer changes to the ward pharmacy technician or pharmacist.
* Provide daily ward visits; determine suitability of Patient Own Drugs (PODs) against agreed criteria and refer as necessary.
* Ensure precision in medicine supply transcriptions and perform final accuracy checks against valid prescriptions; provide feedback or referral if errors are identified.
Qualifications and training
* Minimum 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths, English and one Science at Grade C/4 (or higher).
* Eligibility to apply for UK Apprenticeships.
Experience
* Customer service experience.
* Experience working in a pharmacy or health service sector.
* Resident in the UK/EU for at least 3 years (Apprenticeship requirement).
