We are currently seeking a Senior Systems Test Engineer to join our Engineering Department in New Malden. This is a hands-on role that requires a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual with strong communication skills and a consistent ability to deliver high-quality work. Due to the nature of the work, the position is primarily office-based.
As a Senior Systems Test Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to understand project requirements, define and agree on test scopes, and support both software and hardware testing activities. As your knowledge of our products grows, you will also play a key role in supporting the Lead Test Engineer and Test Manager across various aspects of the team’s responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Taking ownership of testing for more complex and higher-risk components of the system
2. Product knowledge - deepening expertise in the product's architecture and functionality. Ability to independently troubleshoot system issues and suggest improvements based on testing feedback, including for technical publications
3. Lab safety and setup - responsible for ensuring proper safety measures are followed during test execution. Assists in troubleshooting lab equipment and software during setup
4. Continuous improvement - identifying and driving improvements to testing processes, tools, or test environments
5. Leading test execution for medium-complexity projects and ensuring tests are executed on time and to specification
6. Reviewing and providing input on test cases, suggesting improvements, and ensuring they meet test objectives
About You
7. Advanced test methodologies & holistic system thinking - apply advanced test techniques (e.g. risk-based testing, performance testing) and demonstrate an increasing ability to assess how software interacts with hardware components, ensuring comprehensive system-level validation
8. Advanced understanding of how hardware and software components interact, and the testing considerations involved
9. Strong proficiency in manual and/or automated testing, with the ability to troubleshoot both hardware and software issues
10. Ability to analyse and identify root causes for issues or defects
11. Intermediate test design skills, including writing and improving test plans, cases and scripts
12. Increased expertise in product knowledge, with greater knowledge of product features and system architecture
13. Leadership - beginning to mentor junior team members by providing guidance on technical questions or test execution
14. Problem-solving - creative and resourceful in finding solutions to testing challenges and defects
15. Exemplary professional conduct - lead by example in work ethic, focus and time management. Be visibly committed to delivering high-quality work, avoiding bad habits
Specialist knowledge
16. Experience of testing safety critical or regulated products in an Engineering field, such as Marine, Automotive or Aerospace
17. Knowledge of requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS, ReqView or similar)
18. Knowledge of Test Management Tools (e.g. Xray)
19. Experience, or knowledge, in the use of Python
20. ISTQB certified tester would be advantageous
