Consultant - Midwife

We are seeking a Consultant Midwife to lead and deliver expert care for women with complex medical, social, or obstetric needs, ensuring safe, personalised, and evidence‑based care. The senior clinical leadership role will focus on midwifery care for women who require care outside of standard clinical pathways.
Role responsibilities include:
* Lead clinical care pathways, including the introduction of midwifery‑led, multi‑agency clinics for women with complex needs and implementation of The Maternal Care Bundle.
* Provide expert midwifery practice and service development.
* Serve as professional leadership, consultancy, education and training.
* Conduct research, audit and evaluation.
* Advocate for women requiring individualised care planning; contribute to service development and promote best practice aligned with national standards.
* Lead and coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams, partner with obstetric, neonatal, safeguarding, and community services.
* Act as an ambassador for the Trust’s maternity service nationally and internally.
Qualifications and experience required:
* NMC Registered Midwife with clinical and professional experience relevant to maternity.
* Degree in Midwifery or a UK‑equivalent healthcare subject.
* Advanced or master’s level qualification in a relevant clinical subject (or currently working towards).
* Extensive practical experience across antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal services.
* Public health and inequalities knowledge.
* Experience working in partnership with multidisciplinary teams.
* Evidence of innovative practice involving research, audit, or publications.
* Teaching and mentoring experience.
* Professional advocacy and public speaking experience.
Key skills and knowledge:
* Well‑developed verbal and written communication, including presentations.
* High interpersonal and leadership skills, ability to influence and negotiate.
* Analytical, problem‑solving, and organisational ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to develop policies, procedures, and educational programmes.
* Chartered awareness of equality, diversity, and NHS priorities.
* IT literacy: Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Teams, BadgerNet.
* Willingness to travel across multiple sites and participate in on‑call rota.
