CONSULTANT NEUROLOGIST

Basic Salary: £111,430 - £148,064 per annum

Why work for us?

Patients are at the centre of everything we do in our daily working lives at NHS Borders, ensuring they are safe, cared for efficiently, effectively by suitably experienced and qualified staff driving quality at the heart of patient care. We are a dynamic and forward‑thinking team with a wealth of clinical and leadership experience. We aim for an open and honest culture and believe in nurturing future stars in NHS.

The Role

We are seeking a full‑time consultant neurologist who will work within the existing neurology team. The team currently comprises two full‑time consultants (one of which is this post), an 0.8FTE MS specialist nurse, and a 0.6FTE PD specialist nurse. Work is underway to expand our nursing workforce, including increased PD advanced practitioner capacity and recruitment of an Epilepsy Advanced Practitioner. The local service is supported by tertiary services based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The successful applicant will also assist in the development of clinical networks and pathways for the management of patients with neurological conditions within existing health services and with other boards within the region. They will work from within NHS Borders, with a lead role in providing care for the population of the Borders, whilst being recognised as a member of the tertiary neurology service at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The hospital is located in a rural setting with excellent schools, abundant local amenities and good transport links to Edinburgh. Superb local leisure facilities plus good quality affordable housing provide ideal opportunities for a high quality of life in this scenic part of the country. A relocation package up to full Inland Revenue limits is available for the successful candidate if relocating their main residence to the local area.

In a new service development, NHS Borders will offer all newly appointed consultants executive coaching with a trained coach, intended to develop your own leadership style and effective decision making.

NHS Scotland Boards will check entitlement to work through visa, EU settled or pre‑settled status, or other routes.
