History Teacher – SEN School (SEMH Needs)
We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate History Teacher to join our specialist SEN school supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated educator who is passionate about making history engaging and accessible for young people who may have experienced barriers to education.
The Role
You will deliver engaging and differentiated History lessons to students across KS3 and KS4 within a nurturing and supportive learning environment. Many students may present with SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours and interrupted educational experiences. The successful candidate will be able to inspire curiosity, encourage critical thinking and build strong, positive relationships with students.
Responsibilities
Plan and deliver creative, differentiated History lessons tailored to individual learner needs
Support students in developing historical knowledge, analytical thinking and written communication skills
Create a calm, structured and inclusive classroom environment
Use restorative and trauma-informed approaches to behaviour management
Support students to re-engage positively with education and learning
Monitor progress and contribute towards EHCP targets and student reviews
Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and external professionals
Support students’ emotional wellbeing alongside academic achievement The Ideal Candidate
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent
Experience teaching History at KS3 and KS4 level
Experience working within SEN, SEMH or alternative provision settings desirable
Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
