Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive Site Agent to oversee the delivery of dedicated cycleways and associated highway improvements across Cambridge. The role focuses on managing and coordinating the supply chain rather than direct site construction. You will ensure that all works, including footpath widening, resurfacing, signage, lining, and junction remodelling, are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the supply chain delivering highway and cycleway improvements.
Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental regulations across all contractors (CDM, RAMS, risk assessments).
Monitor programme progress and coordinate with contractors to ensure milestones are met.
Manage quality assurance: ensure works meet design specifications, drawings, and material standards.
Maintain site records, progress reports, and risk registers.
Liaise with local authorities, clients, stakeholders, and the public as needed.
Coordinate minor design changes, junction remodelling, signage, and lining works with design/engineering teams.
Monitor contractor performance and adherence to safety, programme, and quality standards.
Support the Project Manager with contract administration, variation requests, and reporting.
Provide regular updates on project progress, risks, and issues.
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience as a Site Agent or similar role on highways, cycleway, or civil engineering projects.
Experience managing supply chains rather than direct site labour is preferred.
Knowledge of highway works including footpath widening, resurfacing, signage, lining, and minor junction works.
Familiarity with public sector or framework contracts.
Health & Safety qualifications: SMSTS (or equivalent), CSCS Manager/Supervisor card.
Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Good communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
IT literate: Microsoft Office, project management software.
