Overview

We seek to appoint an Associate Professor/Professor in Computer Science with significant competence in contemporary applications of Artificial Intelligence. Applicants should have a track record of publications and academic achievement to complement the research in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, and the ability to lead in the disciplines of Computer Science and AI, broadly, but preferably in applications related to cyber security, explainable and/or applied AI.

This is a fixed-term position for four years and provides a full range of opportunities and tools to facilitate substantive career development and to contribute to cross-disciplinary research through activities, publications and an impact on industry and society at large. An effective communicator, you will hold a PhD in Computer Science or a closely-related area and an appropriate higher education teaching qualification, such as FHEA, in addition to an established and rich research profile.


Responsibilities

* Lead in Computer Science and AI, with emphasis on applications related to cyber security, explainable AI and/or applied AI.
* Strengthen the School's research and teaching portfolio by liaising with the Knowledge Exchange and Research Institute (KERI), including its cyber security focus.
* Deliver high-quality teaching within the School and contribute to the development of students using modern pedagogic approaches as part of the University’s Future Skills initiative.
* Work with a team of lecturers to provide vibrant, relevant education and positively influence student experience and outcomes.
* Publish research and contribute to the School and University’s research profile and impact activities.


Qualifications

* PhD in Computer Science or closely-related area.
* Appropriate HE teaching qualification (e.g., FHEA).
* Established and substantial research profile with publications in AI, machine learning, computer vision or related fields.


About the School and Environment

We are part of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing & the Environment (ECE). We teach and research across a wide range of subjects, enabling cross-discipline innovation and creativity. The School hosts an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education (ACE-CSE) with a Silver Award by the NCSC since 2021. We offer high-quality courses focused on applied computer science, cybersecurity, games and digital media, strengthened by industry collaborations and partnerships. The University has TEF Gold for educational provision, with the School contributing significantly.


Term and Interview

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 4 years. In-person interviews are expected to be held the week commencing 27 October 2025.
