NDT Technical Consultant NDT Chief Engineer NIS/NDT Location : Cambridge/Middlesbrough/Port Talbot Contract : Permanent Hours : Full time Job Profile : Chief Engineer Salary/annum : Min £51,761 - Max £77,642 Reference number : JR100596 Closing Date : 16 June 2025 Security requirements: Applicant will require UK Security Clearance for this role Description of role: TWI are seeking to appoint an experienced NDT Chief Engineer/Consultant to support the “NDT Inspection Services” Section of the “Non-Destructive testing” (NDT) Group. This work will include in-house and customer consultancy support, authoring and review of Level 3 documentation, support to invigilation, audit, expert witness and standard committees, business development, mentoring and delivery of state-of-the art advanced NDT projects. The Chief Engineer will have a minimum of one CSWIP/PCN Level 3 qualification in an ultrasonic technique, an appropriate qualification at degree level and extensive knowledge the application of NDT to industry. A postdoctoral qualification and/or experience in nuclear or defence sectors would be of advantage. The NIS section delivers a broad range of projects to an international customer base often with competing demands and the requirement to co-ordinate multiple priorities in a fast paced, continually changing environment. As a Chief Engineer in our team, you will propose, manage and deliver projects for TWI Member Companies, as well as supporting day-to-day customer enquiries. To be successful you will need to: Develop expertise and innovations aligned to Industrial Member need in order to differentiate TWI from competitors, often being asked to solve NDT enquiries related to inspection of challenging materials, complex geometries or within hazardous environments; Commit to providing technical excellence with effective communication and interpersonal skills, Demonstrate a strong track record for effective Project Management, scoping of work and authoring of technical reports to a high standard; Work with peers on your own initiative and act as a mentor to develop less experienced TWI technologists; Maintain projects to a high level of safety, quality and technical excellence while ensuring time, cost and delivery targets are met; Proactively develop a pipeline of new business, engaging with potential customers, colleagues in other business units and the business development function. Remain flexible to the needs of the business, supporting the team to deliver project work in times of high demand whether this is a desk based, laboratory or on-site requirement. This role can be offered as a hybrid role with two days working in the closest office/customer sites and the remainder working at home.
