Daniela Schlingmann Literary Scouting Ltd - Scouting Executive
DSLS are looking for an energetic, creative and highly-motivated new team member to work in our busy literary scouting agency, supporting three scouts
We work with publishers all over the world to find the very best of UK fiction, non-fiction and children’s books to be published in translation. Our ideal candidate will enjoy reading a wide variety of literature and have a keen interest in book publishing and the international publishing market. As part of a lively team, you will be expected to use your skills to help facilitate colleagues' projects; to roll up your sleeves and pitch in. A significant part of the role will be to handle schedules, liaise with our international clients on a daily basis, send and log submissions, write and proof scouting reports, and assorted general administrative tasks. Building contacts and maintaining communications with UK and international agents and publishers as well as with film and TV agents is also crucial.
This role gives an ideal opportunity for an assistant who may currently be working at a publishing house or literary agency to use their excellent administrative skills to move on to the next step in a publishing career, discover more about international publishing and build extensive contacts within the industry. You will have excellent communication skills, be highly organised and enjoy working in an ambitious team. Confidence in handling a high volume of work, a sharp eye for detail and excellent IT skills (covering Microsoft Office, including spreadsheets) are all essential.
The international aspect of the role means that prior experience of working in foreign rights, and/or knowledge of a foreign language would be an advantage. Experience in an administrative role and a keen interest in children's books or non-fiction in particular would also be beneficial, as would experience of writing copy.
Please send a CV, meaningful covering letter and a two-page sample reader's report on a book you have recently read, containing a plot summary, review and an assessment of its suitability for international markets.
Please also state your earliest availability - we are looking for the new team member to start as soon as possible.
