The Journey Begins With You
Our industry-recognised Engineering apprenticeship schemes are a great way to kick-start your career. This Mechelec Apprenticeship will give you the knowledge and skills to become a world-class engineer, accomplish your career and financial goals, and gain a trade for life.
Unlike schemes at other companies, the Stagecoach Apprenticeship Scheme offers unlimited support, with a dedicated mentor throughout the 4 years. You will meet regularly with Managers and Engineering Directors for advice and guidance and start the course with a comprehensive toolkit.
You can join one of our apprenticeship programs at various locations across the UK, starting in August or September each year. Regardless of your fleet’s vehicle profile, you will complete the same tasks as all other candidates, ensuring equal opportunities.
How The Apprenticeship Works
Stagecoach Engineering apprenticeships span four years, providing comprehensive learning and skill development. The first three years involve practical training at our bus depots, working alongside skilled technicians and using the latest diagnostic technology.
Year 1
● Overview of all vehicle systems, including Health and Safety, tools & equipment, inspections, wheels & tyres, braking, steering & suspension, engines, electrical principles, air & fuel systems, cooling & lubrication, and transmission & drivelines.
Year 2
● Focused learning on electrical systems, body electrics, transmission, and drivelines, including component removal & replacement.
Year 3
● Advanced diagnostics for body & electrical systems, engines, chassis, and transmission, along with vehicle & component inspections, diagnosing, and repairing.
Alongside practical training, you'll attend a specialised college to achieve either the Bus and Coach Engineering Technician Standard (England and Wales) or the Modern Apprenticeship in Bus and Coach Engineering Maintenance (Scotland).
The final year is a bespoke program endorsed and certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry, pairing you with an experienced mentor to consolidate your skills.
Upon completion, you will be eligible for membership at the Society of Operations Engineers, further enriching your professional journey.
The Benefits You Can Expect
Many of our Engineering Directors and Managers started as apprentices — this could be your career path too.
